Gender and the return migration process: Gulf returnees in Ghana

Abstract Labour migration in the context of South-South is generally conceived as a multidimensional process that comprises three distinct subprocesses: emigration, immigration, and return migration. There growing consensus least understood these subprocesses. In similar vein, gendered analysis has become more integral to scholarship today; yet one area where gender matters but not been thoroughly studied process. This paper explores how shapes experiences by reflecting on four transnational sites such migrants’ socio-demographic features, working living conditions Gulf, remittance control use, finally reintegration. Empirically, this research draws selected Gulf male female migrants Accra, Ghana. The study reports dimension returnees’ constitutes an avenue potential produce nuanced understanding Global South.
